XXXLutz: Group to open seven new furniture markets in Germany in 2009

This year, the XXXLutz group, Austria, is going to open 15 new furniture stores. Seven of them will be in Germany and one, in Aschheim near Munich, will be a market measuring 46,000 sqm when it opens in the middle of 2009. According to the firm’s announcement, this is the biggest single investment in its history. Further openings are planned in Schweinfurt, Frankfurt and Darmstadt. Expansion into the CEE region is going to continue: in 2009, four Möbelix furnishings discounters in Hungary (Györ, Szeged, Usti, Budaörs) and three furnishings discounters in Czechia (Prague, Ostrawa, Presov) will be developed. The group announced back in October that it would expand its XXXLutz complete service furniture market line into Sweden. A pilot shop of 25,000 sqm is to open in 2010 in Malmö. At the moment, XXXLutz is operating 65 furnishings stores, 21 Mömax markets and 53 Möbelix discount markets, among others, in Austria, Germany, Czechia, Slovakia and Hungary. According to the latest report, €2.4bn were earned.
